Join our Board 2026

Background

Imagine Citizens Network (ICN) is looking for new Board Members to help shape a healthcare system that works better for patients, caregivers, families, and the people it is meant to serve.

ICN is a citizen-led organization that brings patient and caregiver voices into health system decisions through partnership and community engagement. For more than a decade, we’ve worked alongside government, universities, healthcare organizations, and communities across Alberta to ensure the voices of citizens are heard and valued in healthcare improvement.

A core part of our work is Care Opinion. An online platform that allows patients, caregivers, and families to safely share their healthcare experiences directly with providers, helping turn those experiences into learning, reflection and improvement within the healthcare system.to help improve care.

As a federally incorporated not-for-profit organization, ICN is guided by the belief that healthcare systems are stronger when they are shaped by the people who use them. Our current strategic priorities include:

  • Creating safe spaces for lived experience sharing and strengthening ICN’s role in sensemaking and engagement
  • Expanding and scaling the Care Opinion program across Alberta and beyond
  • Building strategic partnerships to advance shared goals
  • Strengthening organizational sustainability through collaboration and volunteer leadership

Opportunity

We are looking to welcome individuals with diverse experiences, perspectives, and skills to our Board of Directors. We are particularly interested in people with experience and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Finance and Risk Management
  • Digital Health, Technology, and Innovation
  • Healthcare Leadership and System Experience
  • Stakeholder Engagement and the Charitable/Not-for-Profit Sector
  • Alberta’s healthcare system as a patient, caregiver, family member, or community member, and a passion for improving healthcare experiences and outcomes for others

We are committed to building a Board that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We strongly encourage applications from people with lived experience, individuals from underrepresented or underserved communities, and those whose voices are not always heard in healthcare conversations. We believe diverse perspectives make our work stronger and more impactful.

If you have previous board experience and are interested in serving as a Board Officer (e.g., Treasurer), please indicate this in your application.

Board members serve a three-year term. This is a primarily virtual position, with one or two in-person gatherings throughout the year. In addition to monthly board meetings, and occasional special meetings as needed, members contribute through Board committees (Finance, Governance, Revenue Development, etc.) and may participate in working groups that support ICN’s mission and vision.
